Getting Out the Word!

Search Engines

Okay - so you have a web site online, and you are ready to share information with people so they can find your church, and come and visit you. What do you do next? We have a list of search engines compiled, which would be a good place to start. You can find this at:

The former search engine list we used to have is now a search engine of search engines! Visit http://www.cuckaburro.org for the rebuilt search engine resource including a lrage listing of Christian Oriented Search Engines as well as submission links (free and pay). Check it out!

One search engine you should make a priority is DMOZ. To save you a long and tedious voyage into the depths of their directories (a lot of search engines - including dmoz require you to navigate to the proper directory before submitting a site) here is the link you are looking for if you have an independent Baptist church to register:

http://www.dmoz.org

Clicking on the above link will take you to the add-url page for Independent Baptist churches.

Getting your church onto DMOZ will get you listed on Netscape Search, AOL Search, Google, Lycos, HotBot DirectHit nad hundreds of others according to DMOZ information. You may want to think about a general description of your web site, and "key words" used for search engines to search on.

You can also use submission services, some of which are free.

Top Sites

This is a good place to start. Note: these are secular search engines, you will want to add yourself to some of the "Christian" search engines in addition to these. There are many submission services that will charge you to get your web site submitted. Be wary of claims. See which search engines they will actually be using to submit your web site to. Having a web site submitted to a search engine does NOT guarantee the search engine will actually list your web site, particularly if the submitter does not have the correct categories selected, or if the web site does not match the content of the search engines.

Another good way of getting your web site out is by adding your site to a "Top Site" list. Below are links to some of the most popular top site lists, particularly for Independent Baptist and Bible Churches. You ranking will generally be set by how many visits you get to your site. Placing your church on one of these top site lists can also make your URL available to search engines that "spider" (that is look for URLs on a web site and then visit and index those web sites.  I will physically add the web site to all the following top sites. You MUST add code to your site and display the icons in order to be a member of these top site lists!

Banner Exchange

A banner exchange is another good way to get visibility to your web site.  Usually you put up your banner on a site, and you "earn" banner displays for each banner(s) you display. A banner exchange with a 3:1 ratio requires you to display three banners on your your site in order to get one display on someone else's site. This does require you to have a banner. You can get a FREE banner at Design awesome banner
ads like this one FREE at AdDesigner.com   The following is a banner I created there for "online churches." Banner exchanges very often require a script to be run on your site. You will need to add code in order to join a banner exchange program of this type. Below are some banner exchange programs. Also, when you put up multiple banners, the script files can cause some problems. You may need to move the banner code around in order make the banners work. The first two banners I put up required me to switch the position of the code to make one of them work.

The following is FamilyNet International's Banner Exchange. We (of course) recommend you sign up for that one first B-).  You will get fantastic click ratios through 2006, and it will go to 1:2 (1 show for every 2 times you show banners on your site) with 3000 bonus impressions.

I submitted a request to the Family Banner Exchange. Below is the response received. As you will see many of these banner exchange and reciprocal link sites have some specific requirements. While the requirements of this banner exchange are not unreasonable, since I am trying to show you banners and how the process works, I want all the banners on a "banners" page.

Hello,

We're sorry to inform you that your banner, Online Churches, has not been approved and thus will not rotate.

Reasons your banner may have been rejected:

Note: The Ark Webs Family Banner Exchange code must be on a page where the banners
can be seen by your website visitors. It must be easy to find the banner exchange code from your home page where we can  verify that you are displaying the banners where others can see them. The code can not just be placed on a banner exchange page. This would not be fair to the other members of the banner exchange. If we can not find the Ark Webs code on your site in a noticeable place, your banner will not be put into rotation.

Banners must be 468x60 pixels and no more than 12k. Acceptable file formats are gif. & jpg.

If you submit a banner that does not meet the above requirements the account will be
deleted without notice.

This banner exchange is for English language websites only.

Best Regards,
The FamilyBX Team

A web ring is a group of web pages that share a common theme. A web ring also requires that you add special code to your web site. FamilyNet runs many web rings, and there are a myriad of Web Rings out there, you can see the FamilyNet Web Rings by going to the following site. Click on "join now" to join the ring, you can see the various web sites that are members of this ring, or you can see all the rings this web page is a member of. You can click "join" on any of these web rings to sign up and start driving traffic to your new church site.
